Wendy’s Updates Spicy Chicken Sandwich with New Marinade, Panko Breading, and Potato Bun

Wendy's
is rolling out a refreshed version of its Spicy Chicken Sandwich at restaurants across the U.S. starting March 30, 2026.

The updated sandwich keeps the same core idea but changes several components to improve flavor and texture.

According to the company, the new version focuses on a juicier chicken filet, more crunch, and a slightly richer overall build.

Here is what’s new:

  • A new marinade to make the chicken more juicy

  • Panko-style breading with a blend of nine spices for added crunch and heat

  • A soft, slightly sweet potato bun

  • A richer, Southern-style mayo

  • Pickles added for extra crunch and balance

The Spicy Chicken Sandwich remains positioned as one of the chain’s signature items, and this update comes after more than a year of testing and customer feedback.

If you want the same upgrades without the heat, the Classic Chicken Sandwich is getting the same changes as well.

Beyond the spicy and classic chicken sandwiches, Wendy’s says the new potato bun will also appear across its premium sandwich lineup, including burgers and other chicken options.
