Whole Foods Market is expanding its smaller store concept, Whole Foods Market Daily Shop, to Boston, Chicago, and Philadelphia over the next two years as it continues to grow the format in dense urban neighborhoods.
The Daily Shop format is designed to deliver a streamlined shopping experience in a smaller footprint, focusing on everyday grocery needs while maintaining Whole Foods’ curated selection of natural and organic products. Stores will feature fresh produce, meat and seafood, prepared foods, bakery items, and select 365 by Whole Foods Market products.
Company executives say the concept is intended to make shopping faster and more efficient while still offering the quality and variety associated with the brand.
“These stores are designed with intention at every level, from layout to assortment,” said Stephanie Curley, Senior Manager of Growth & Innovation at Whole Foods Market and Amazon. “We’re able to introduce new merchandising approaches and fixtures that make it easier for customers to find what they need, while still delivering the quality and discovery they expect.”
Three new leases have already been signed for future locations at 111 Harbor Way in Boston’s Seaport district, 1200 N Ashland in Chicago’s Wicker Park neighborhood, and 2221-2225 South Street in Philadelphia. Opening dates have not yet been announced.
The company says each store will also emphasize local and regional suppliers to reflect the surrounding communities.
The Daily Shop concept first launched in New York City in 2024 and has since expanded to additional markets, including Arlington, Virginia, and London. Whole Foods currently operates eight Daily Shop locations and plans further expansion in both the U.S. and abroad.
