Kroger is giving shoppers a new way to use the rewards they earn through its loyalty program.
The grocery chain announced that rewards members can now redeem Points for discounts on groceries both in-store and online, expanding a program that previously focused on fuel savings. As part of the change, Kroger is also simplifying the program's terminology by renaming Fuel Points as simply "Points."
The new redemption option allows customers to exchange 100 Points for $1 off eligible grocery purchases, with savings capped at $10 per day. To use Points toward groceries, customers must log into their digital account through the Kroger app or website and apply the discount before checking out.
Fuel discounts remain available as well. Members can continue to redeem 100 Points for 10 cents off per gallon, with savings of up to $1 per gallon at participating fuel stations.
According to Kroger, the update gives customers more flexibility to decide whether their rewards are more valuable at the grocery checkout or at the gas pump.
Points are earned at a rate of one Point per dollar spent on qualifying purchases made in stores or through Kroger Pickup and Delivery services. Additional earning opportunities are available on select gift cards, qualifying prescriptions, and during promotional bonus Point events.
Members enrolled in Kroger's Boost subscription program can earn Points even faster through a 2X Points benefit on eligible purchases. Boost members also receive additional perks such as free grocery delivery and select streaming benefits.
To encourage participation during the busy summer shopping season, Kroger is also offering several limited-time bonus Point promotions. Customers can earn 4X Points on Fridays through July 24, as well as 4X Points on purchases made between July 1 and July 4. The retailer is also offering a digital coupon that provides 4X Points on Private Selection products through July 18.
The move comes as grocery retailers continue looking for new ways to add value to loyalty programs and help shoppers manage household budgets amid ongoing pressure on food and fuel costs.
