Ajinomoto Expands Frozen Dumpling Line With New Saucy Gyoza and Jumbo Shumai

Ajinomoto® Japanese Jumbo Chicken Shumai

Ajinomoto Foods North America is adding two new frozen Japanese-inspired items to its growing dumpling lineup with the launch of Sweet & Spicy Chili Saucy Pork & Chicken Gyoza and Jumbo Chicken Shumai.

The new products are available now at Albertsons and Ahold stores, with additional retailers expected to carry them later this summer.

The Sweet & Spicy Chili Saucy Pork & Chicken Gyoza pairs pork and chicken dumplings with a garlic sweet chili sauce that taps into the ongoing “swicy” flavor trend. Each box includes 10 dumplings and a sauce packet, with the gyoza ready in under three minutes in the microwave or about six to seven minutes steamed. The suggested price is $7.99.

Ajinomoto says the dumplings feature ginger-seasoned pork and chicken filling balanced with sweet heat from the included chili sauce.

The company is also launching Japanese Jumbo Chicken Shumai, described as a larger take on traditional shumai with diced and ground chicken, shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and water chestnuts for added texture.

Each box includes nine shumai and a soy-vinegar dipping sauce packet. The shumai can be microwaved in about three minutes, air fried in nine minutes, or steamed in 17 minutes. Suggested pricing is also set at $7.99.

According to Dave Gardner, the new items build on the success of the brand’s earlier Hane-Style Gyoza launch while offering consumers more quick-cooking frozen meal options with restaurant-inspired flavors.

Ajinomoto says both launches continue the company’s push to bring authentic Japanese flavors and convenience-focused frozen foods to U.S. shoppers.
